Ovarian Cystectomy: Removing Cysts, Preserving Fertility

Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled sacs that develop on or inside an ovary. Many resolve on their own, but some cysts grow large, cause pain, or raise concern on imaging and need to be surgically removed.

Ovarian cystectomy is a laparoscopic procedure that removes the cyst itself while carefully preserving as much healthy ovarian tissue as possible — an important consideration for patients who wish to maintain their fertility.

Dr. Ritu evaluates each cyst using ultrasound and, where needed, additional imaging or blood markers, before recommending surgery versus a watch-and-wait approach.

Recovery from laparoscopic cystectomy is generally quick, with most patients resuming normal activity within one to two weeks.
